RESEARCH
During my time in undergraduate research, I primarily studied small mammal species diversity in various habitats in Northeastern Missouri. Over a two year span, we captured, identified and released mammals to compared the number and abundance of each species with the Shannon index in each habitat.
Here at UW-Madison, I am broadly interested in how Barred Owls change the landscape of western forest ecosystems and population of subspecies in Mendocino County, CA. Working with Danny Hofstadter, my research is aimed to use Autonomous recording units(ARUs) to detect Barred Owl species in western forest and conduct removal studies to preserve the diversity in these areas.
My second chapter consists of using real-time ARUs to detect Barred Owls present in Humboldt Redwood State Park. This real-time aspect will allow us to conduct removals sooner and preserve the habitat for the endangered Northern Spotted Owl.
