    RESEARCH

I am a Researcher in the Peery Lab working on the acoustic monitoring program in California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, a large-scale avian monitoring project which informs conservation and forest management via data collected through passive acoustic surveys. Specifically, my role is to lead the southern field crew for this program which deploys hundreds of autonomous recording units (ARUs) across three National Forests in the southern Sierra Nevadas to detect and monitor California spotted owls and other species.

I am broadly interested in avian ecology, especially migration ecology and habitat associations of migratory birds during different parts of their life cycle. My background includes extensive experience in songbird banding for several migration monitoring programs and MAPS in western Canada, as well as population monitoring for an endangered subspecies of Yellow-breasted Chat in southern British Columbia, and motus tag deployment and demographic monitoring of songbirds in endangered riparian habitats. Recently I banded hummingbirds and collected urine samples for ecotoxicology research which examined the presence of systemic insecticides in hummingbirds near blueberry fields around Vancouver, BC.
