RESEARCH
I came onto the Peery lab as a seasonal crew lead, helping to run a team of 8 wildlife technicians during a field season of data collection in Lassen and Plumas NFs. I continued with the lab, becoming an assistant project lead for the California spotted owl bioacoustics project. This is a cutting edge program using passive acoustics to help answer questions about California spotted owl demography, as well as barred owl presence in the Sierra Nevada. The data collected will also be used to further understand interactions between these species and other forest owls as well as answer questions about the broader avian community throughout this region.
Other research opportunities I have had the privilege to work on include exploring the effects of anthropogenic noise on northern spotted owl stress levels in northern California, the usage of spoil islands among multiple taxa in central Florida, and genetic research on warblers in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan.
